Call for Proposals: Symposia, Round Tables,
and Pre-congress Meetings
Brno, Czech Republic, 23-27 August 2027
We invite you to submit proposals for the 16th Conference of the European Ornithologists’ Union, to be held in Brno, Czech Republic, 23rd-27th August 2027. The EOU conference offers a unique opportunity for presenting your research to a diverse audience of ornithologists, and to highlight a topic about which you are passionate.
Symposia
A symposium should focus on a clear and broad theme that can be expected to be of interest beyond a highly specialist group. Symposiums will consist of a 5 min introduction by the conveners, a 25 min review of the theme and 4 talks of 15 min each (including questions). The symposium is closed by a 5 min summary by the conveners. We envisage that the review and 2-3 talks will be organised by the conveners, with 1-2 talks selected from contributed talks proposed by conference participants. All invited talks must be confirmed by the time of submission.
Evaluation of proposals will be based mainly on originality, interest, and relevance to key, current issues in ornithology. We encourage diversity in the applications: there should be two conveners from different countries, and a balance of speaker gender is considered an advantage. Involvement of Early Career Researchers (ECR: PhD student or post-doc within 5 years of PhD completion) as co-conveners or invited speakers is desirable. Please ensure that speakers represent different research groups and preferably different countries. No person should present more than one talk during the conference.
Your proposal should include the title, convener names and affiliations, and the presenters and (preliminary) titles of the review and talks. Please also indicate ECRs. You should include a paragraph that would serve as a scientific summary for the conference website to attract submissions, and a separate motivation paragraph for the SPC’s evaluation. The proposal should ideally be no longer than one A4 page.
Deadline for submitting symposium proposals: Monday 5th October 2026.
Round Tables
Round Tables can be organized during evening sessions (2 h maximum). Their aim is to generate discussion and stimulate networking on a specific research topic or question. Round Tables can incorporate brief presentations to introduce the topic of discussion, but should leave sufficient room for actual discussion and interaction. Proposals should include the title, a brief description of the topic, and name and affiliation of the convener(s).
Deadline for submitting round table proposals: Monday 18th January 2027.
Pre-congress Meetings
Pre-congress meetings can consist of a half-day or a full-day meeting, with the format decided by the conveners. Submissions should contain the same information as the Round Tables.
Deadline for submitting pre-congress meeting proposals: Monday 18th January 2027.
Submission
Please submit your proposal as an email attachment to Dr Amy Leedale, Scientific Programme Committee Chairperson, at: eou27spc@gmail.com. Please include the format and brief title of your proposal in the subject header, and in the document name e.g. ‘SYMPOISUM_XX’, ‘PREMEETING_XX’ or ‘ROUNDTABLE_XX’.
General abstract submission is expected to open in late 2026 or early 2027.
