The objectives of the EOU are the advancement of ornithology and the promotion of the scientific study of birds within Europe. To this end, the EOU holds conferences at different places in Europe, promotes communication between European ornithologists and engages in other activities designed to advance ornithology in Europe. Any person seriously interested in the study of birds in Europe is welcome to join. Membership is free.
