Call for Symposia proposals, round tables, and pre- and post-congress meetings

12th EOU Conference

Cluj-Napoca, Romania

26 – 30 August 2019

Deadline for submitting symposium proposals: 1 December 2018

We invite you to submit symposia proposals for the 12th Conference of the European Ornithologists’ Union, to be held in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. The EOU conference offers a unique opportunity for presenting your research to a diverse audience of European avian researchers, and to highlight a topic that you are passionate about.

A symposium should focus around a clear theme which can be expected to be of interest beyond a highly specialist group. A symposium consists of a 5 min. introduction presented by the conveners, a 25 min. review of the theme and 4 talks of 15 min. each (this includes questions and moving between symposia). The symposium is closed by a 5 min. summary by the conveners. We envisage that the review and 2 or 3 talks are organised by the conveners and 1 or 2 talks can be later selected from contributed talks proposed by conference participants. All talks organised by conveners must be confirmed by the time of submission of the application. Please ensure that the talks are given by people from different groups and preferably from different countries. No single person should present more than a single talk during the same EOU conference.

Symposium Proposal: Your proposal should include the title, a brief description of the topic, convener names and affiliations, and the presenters and (tentative) titles of the review and talks. It should be no longer than one A4 page. The deadline for submitting symposium proposals is 1 December 2018.

Round Tables can be organized during evening sessions (2h maximum). Their aim is to generate discussion and stimulate networking on a specific research topic or question. Round Tables can incorporate brief presentations to introduce the topic of discussion, but should leave sufficient room for actual discussion and interaction. Proposals should include the title, a brief description of the topic, and name and affiliation of the convener(s). The deadline for submitting round tables is 1st April 2019. Submissions after this date can still be considered only in case there is enough space in the program.

Pre- or post-congress meetings can consist of a half-day or even a full-day meeting, with the format decided by the conveners. Submissions should contain the same information as the Round Tables. The deadline for submitting pre- or post-congress meetings is 1st April 2019.

Submission: Submit your symposia proposal as an email attachment (preferably in pdf format) to Erik Matthysen, Scientific Programme Committee Chairman, at
