Profile information
I am broadly interested in what drives important decision-making in birds: where to
breed, where to forage, whom to help. Currently a postdoctoral research associate at
the University of Sheffield, I aim to identify the role of familiarity (via social networks)
on kin recognition and helping decisions in a facultative cooperative breeder, the
long-tailed tit. The population of long-tailed tits in Rivelin Valley, UK, has been studied
since 1994, and I am making use of both this long-term data and additional data on
social networks to better understand these birds’ cooperative decisions. My project is
thus shedding light on the evolutionary forces driving sociality in birds and beyond.
