Profile information
I received my PhD in 1999 at the Institute and Museum of Zoology of Polish Academy of Science (Warsaw, Poland). The degree of Doctor of Sciences in Biology got in 2021 at National Forestry University of Ukraine. Since 2022 I have started work at Ivan Franko National University of Lviv as a professor of the Zoology Department. In 1984 I was a one of founders West Ukrainian Ornithological Society and since 2023 I have headed it.
My main scientific interests can be named biodiversity conservation, anthropogenic transformation of fauna, urban avifauna, history of Ukrainian ornithology, Ukrainian bird nomenclature, natural history museology. For three decades, I have studied the dynamics of the urban avifauna in the Lviv city agglomeration and also, many years I pay special attention to the protection of the Black and White Storks populations in Ukraine, study their migrations and provide of color ringing these species.
As an EOU Council member I want to present interests of Ukrainian ornithologists, to promote their integration into the European ornithology community. Representing the results of Ukrainian research and ensuring open access to biodiversity data about birds in Ukraine are extremely important for the professional networking. I also plan to promote European ornithological research and environmental protection programs in Ukraine with the aim of involving ornithologists affected by the war in these studies.
