Profile information

I got interested in animal ecology during my PhD in Spain and France, when I studied several aspects related to senescence, parasitism, immune system and reproductive success in birds. I explored several aspects of molecular ecology of avian malaria parasites during my postdoc period at Lund University. Currently, I am senior lecturer in the Department of Zoology at the University of Extremadura. I have been co-editor of Ardeola. My present research focuses on host-parasite evolution of avian malaria, the effects of haemosporidian parasites on host fitness traits, and within-lineage competition in malaria double infections. I am also interested on carry-over effects of bird migration.
