Turku 2017
EOU conferences are held in different places in Europe every two years. They attract several hundred ornithologists from all over Europe and abroad.
We warmly welcome you to the 11th congress of the European Ornithologists’ Union that will be hosted by the University of Turku, Finland, 18 – 22 August 2017. Turku is a lively city of ca. 180 000 inhabitants. It is situated at the southwestern Baltic Sea coast of Finland, right next to a beautiful archipelago of more than 40 000 islands and skerries. Everything will take place at a walking distance from the heart of this historical academic city, which provides an enjoyable atmosphere for both the congress and social life in the evenings.
Turku can be reached directly by car, plane, ferry or train, or via Helsinki, from where there are hourly bus and train connections to Turku (duration 2.5 hours).
We are planning to have three full conference days and one day of mid-congress excursions, which will take you to the best birding and hiking areas in the surroundings of Turku. We will do our best to make the congress fees affordable and inclusive.
The local organizers will be Toni Laaksonen, Jon E. Brommer, Suvi Ruuskanen and other members of the Vertebrate Ecology Research Group, in collaboration with Birdlife Finland and Helsinki Lab of Ornithology. We are looking forward to seeing you in Turku!
